RE: Shurflo 5.7/Optional filter
greenrvgreen, thanks for getting back to me. As I thought about the venting idea I realized you probably meant the tank itself so I checked and it's o.k.
In spite of what the install inst. say about no elbow connections and no hard lines at the pump, (in Spanish AND English), that's what the coach builder did. Early on I removed them and replaced with about 20" of flexable 1/2" line. Tomorrow I'm replacing those with 1/2" flex line about 36" long. This will also allow me to get rid of a couple more elbow joints and some hard line. Purge the system once more and see what happens. I'll make an entry here with the results.
RE: Shurflo 5.7/Optional filter
An update....I replaced the orig filter with the larger one recommended by Shurflo. Also ran a lot more water thru the system. The orig. filter was clean and didn't leak, but believe it or not, performance is a little better now. But the pulseing and diminished flow still starts, just not as quickly. A question for greenrvgreen, you speak of a poss. problem with air flow, (venting?). That's a new one on me. Could you elaborate so I know what I'm looking for? Thanks.
Shurflo 5.7/Optional filter
Certainly it has an increased filtering capacity but has any one used it and noticed an increase in flow rate? Or, has anyone with the standard filter noticed the pump struggling to maintain proper flow?
My factory installed 5.7 has developed a quirk. At initial turn on it hums without hesitation, with great flow....for about 20 seconds, then starts pulseing and flow drops dramaticaly. I can turn it off, then back on and the process repeats itself. One faucet or all, makes no difference. There is no adjustment capabilities on the 5.7, as there are on other models, and Shurflo says no accumulator with the 5.7. I've installed about 2' of flexable line into and out of the pump and the filter screen is clean. I hooked up to an outside water source and turned on the pump, ran all outlets like this to purge any air. It's been working fine since '06. I've read the owners manual, English and Spanish, but I'll be darned if I can figure out what I'm missing. For that 1st 20 seconds it pumps exactly like it's supposed to, which tells me the pump is o.k.
Any ideas, even bad ones will be graciously accepted.
RE: Retirement
Retired from LE about 4 years ago at 59 1/2.
Once in a while I think about going back to work, part time, but fortunately the thought passes quickly. I put the time to better use by planning the next road trip.
RE: creative ideas for wiring a roof antenna & wilson ?'s
doko,
Their website is powerfulsignal.com and the setup I got was the SOHO Quick Kit and it had everything I needed, but if you already have some of the items the website can still provide what you need.
The kit wasn't cheap, but I can take it with me if I sell the unit.
In fact if you set it up so that it's easily removed, you can take it with you when you travel by car or plane, (hotels/motels).
RE: creative ideas for wiring a roof antenna & wilson ?'s
doko,
The Wilson factory is here in St George and the guys you deal with via the internet have a shop not far from my house. They were very helpful in assisting me with my hookup. Yes, there should be at least 20' between outside antenna and amp. My outside antenna is on the roof right in front of the rear A/C and it's about the same height as the A/C so it isn't in harms way.I adhered the round metal plate to the roof and the antenna's magnatzed base sits on top. Very secure. I ran the cable down the center of the roof applying chaulking every few feet to hold it in place.
It drops into the coach via the front A/C, with about 6" sticking out thru the vent, barley noticeable. The amp is mounted to the wall across from the front A/C, but on my coach that is a slide out, hence the two are connected only when needed.
The amp cable is left wrapped around the amp until needed.
Slide in, short section of cable is needed, slide out, more cable is unwrapped from amp and attached to ant cable. From the amp is another cable with a smaller ant attached. It can be placed anywhere and provides a large radius of coverage for cell phone or air card, including outside the coach.
It has worked well for me.
RE: Route from Vegas to Central TX
The first bad weather will probably be in Flagstaff, and then probably again thru Albuquerque, both due to altitude. The Texas panhandle is windy, windy, windy. My daughter used to live in Amarillo, now she's in Corpus Christi so I've made the drive a few times. I've never taken your alternate route (Yuma/8/10), so can't comment but it looks a bit longer that way. I10 thru Texas is a good hiway, just endless miles of the same thing. Have a safe trip.
Watch out for those Texas speed bumps.....(armadillos).
Refer. ?, fins iced up
Recently returned from a month in south Texas, along the Gulf. The Dometic 1292 worked fine, LP or elect., good temp. balance btwn. refer and freezer. I have 2 external and 1 internal fan to move the air. After about 2 1/2 weeks the fins started to ice up, from left to right. It was humid there but the A/C was on most of the time so I don't think that's the problem. I keep the thermonuclear thingamabob on the top of the fin farthest to the right. The refer continued to work but it's efficency was compromised. Any ideas?
Yellow air brake handle..Responses
Thanks everyone for the quick, and very informative responses. I've read the manuals but there is nothing like the voice of first hand experience to make learning a little easier. And no one made fun of the question, that's a bonus. Thanks again.
Yellow air brake handle
Mine is requireing quite a heafty push and pull to use, and it makes a loud noise, almost a "crack" sound when I pull it out. Shouldn't it be smooth and quiet? Suggestions?
Fuel up in Mexico?
Next month I'm heading down to Corpus Christi for a few weeks. I'll be ready for fuel around the El Paso area and was considering crossing the border at Juarez just long enough to fuel up. Anyone been there and done that? Opinions?
RE: Inverter Install Question
hotrod4x5,
Like you, I've heard MSW will damage some appliances. I plan on keeping my coach a long time and I enjoy it's versatility so it's been an ongoing process to make changes, big and small to make things work right for the long term. I can do most of my own work so that makes it more financially doable, and a lot more rewarding.
Inverter Install Question
My coach has a factory installed Dimensions 2000w MSW inverter. It's located in the rear of the coach, across from the batteries. The control panel is in the front. My question is this; if I want to replace the inverter with a PSW model, (of similar or less watts), do I have to change all of the cables/wires or can existing stuff be used? I really don't like the idea of having to pull all that cable out and running new stuff thru all the nooks and cranies.
Also, if I CAN use exsisting cables would there be an installation problem if I use a brand other than Dimensions?
Thanks.
RE: Good Motorhome Repair Faclity in St George UT?
Hurricaner....No disrespect intended. Our PMs were exchanges of local info. I wouldn't have thought of being of much interest to most readers, but I could be wrong. If someone is passing thru and needs service there isn't much to choose from here IMHO, at least that I would trust with a newer coach. I do most of my own work, or use Little's in Kanab, or go to Vegas, but I try to avoid doing the latter. This is an area with limited authorized warranty shops (for motorhomes). As such sometimes the costs incurred driving to the closest warranty shop, several times in many cases, is greater than just paying someone to fix the problem.
RE: How is Rexhall coping with all this?
I had the opportunity to talk with Bill Rex this week. I was heading back to Utah after a week of visiting family in Calif. On Hwy 58 between Bakersfield and Barstow I started having electrical problems, the details would be time consuming to explain and are irrelevant to this post. It was getting dark (of course) so rather than risk catastrophe, I made a detour towards the Rexhall factory. They have closed the I Street (older) facility and everything is now at the factory; sales, service, administration. Slept in their parking lot and in the a.m. got up to unhook toad, etc. In drives Bill Rex, whom I had met on other occasions. He asked if I needed help and I gave him the short version, including the fact that I had no appointment but was prepared to leave the coach and drive the toad to Utah as I was scheduled for surgery the next a.m. He said they would try to get me on the road that day. He made a call,as only a boss can do, and in fact the problem was fixed, and a check of all electronis was done and I was back on the road that afternoon. Mr Rex and I spoke at length during the day. He is aware of the problem of east coast folks wanting to see his product. He is also not real happy with the way most dealers take care of their customers post sale, hence he prefers factory sales. He wants to establish a list of authorized repair shops so work can be done at a more convenient location. Sales of the new coach are good. Customer satisfaction is important to him, and as I was told over 2 years ago when I bought mine, they have a very low debt service, they own everything you see.I think they will do fine in spite of the economy.
RE: Time to upgrade water pump ?
Sorry for the delay in responding, been working on the M/H. If I'm not working on it I'm talking about it, if not talking about it I'm thinking about it...or else I'm reading rv.net, what a life.
The Shurflo pump was factory installed, but was noisy, it surged, and the flow wasn't what I thought it should be. After reading the manual, I doubled checked the installation. Hard lines and right angles at both ends. Got rid of the right angles and did a loop of flexable water line at inlet and outlet. The improvement was incredable, it's quiet, smooth, and there's plenty of water.
RE: Time to upgrade water pump ?
I second what all have said. Also, in the installation instructions it will say no hard lines or right angles just before the inlet or right after the outlet. They mean it.
Oregon, I5 to 101
Am looking at Hwys 126, 38, and/or 42 to get from I5 to 101 in Oregon. It will be in mid to late April so weather not a concern as much as the roads themselves. I don't mind twistys and mountains, as long as the road is in good shape and wide enough to safely drive in a 40' with a toad. Any input is appreciated, thanks.
RE: Rexhalll Rose Air
As O'Neill has suggested, type in Rexhall and do a search. You should see my entries regarding Rexhall. PM me if you have questions.
